SUMMARY

Tests raw materials, in-process, and finished products for compliance with specifications. Maintains a high level of technical competence in product evaluations. Writes and maintains specifications. Provides Quality input and analysis to maintain product quality throughout the supply chain and manufacturing process.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conducts organoleptic, microscopic, chemical, and microbiological and other technical evaluations of raw, in-process, and finished products.
  • Operates and maintains laboratory equipment and instruments, including by not limited toGC, HPLC, balances, microscopes, autoclaves, etc….
  • Develops competency in new evaluation methods as required.
  • Analyzes, updates and maintains company Technical Data Sheets to ensure product quality and conformance.
  • Enters and maintains sample documentation and results in LIMS database.
  • Prepares documents and reports as directed.
  • Researches and responds to customer service questions.
  • Able to research product attributes in reference books, trade and scientific journals.
  • Interacts with various Departments to solve product related issues. 
  • Initiates Product Work Orders and Product Reject Forms.
  • Participates in continuous improvement efforts to increase company efficiency.
  • Attends and presents in meetings as requested and/or scheduled.
  • Works independently while demonstrating excellent judgment, accuracy, and decision making with little oversight.
  • May be required to travel for company needs.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

BS or BA in biology, chemistry, food science or related other field from four-year college or university; and 6 months to 1 year related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend detailed instructions, correspondence, reports and memos. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively with a variety of people and respond to basic questions in situations where common courtesy and tact are needed.

 

QUANTITATIVE SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as concentrations, densities, statistical factors, dilutions, proportions, percentages, area, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations and experimental data. Ability to use a computer to create spreadsheets and charts, and run reports.

 

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects and work independently.
  • Understands and applies good laboratory practices.
  • Strong organization and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work within a professional and functional team concept.
  • Intermediate computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft office, database, web based applications and LIMS software.
