  • Overview


    The Electrical Engineer-Food Manufacturing professional will support the mission, vision and goals of Frontier COOP.  This role will be responsible for the design, project management, electrical maintenance oversight, troubleshooting and implementation of industry best practices in accordance with NEC and IBC codes to support the company’s needs and goals.



    • Designs electrical systems and equipment in accordance with NEC and IBC codes to support manufacturing processes.
    • Validates the installation, construction, fabrication, troubleshooting/repairs and changes to/of any systems, structures or components are done in accordance with NEC, OSHA and IBC codes.
    • Develop and maintain strategy for equipment automation, PLC implementation, plant communications systems/structures and work in accordance with IT
    • Challenges vendors and designers to prove the best value option.
    • Utilizes industry and code best practices to implement all projects, upgrades, maintenance and replacements.
    • Supports electrical troubleshooting as required using standard Causal Analysis processes (e.g. fishbone diagrams) and manages practical corrective actions to their completion to prevent a re-occurrence.
    • Coordinates with Automation Technician to achieve effective synergy of talents.
    • Oversees the repair or replacement of any necessary components such as breakers, switchgear, generators, electrical wiring, grounding systems to ensure applicable code and design requirements are met.
    • Perform complex work in the repair, set-up, preventative maintenance and installation of manufacturing and facility equipment.
    • Maintains meticulous documentation in accordance with established protocols, with an expectation to identify and oversee best in class process improvements.
    • Use manuals and other resources to research and locate equipment and parts to support production needs.
    • Ensures plant electrical drawings are accurate, filed using a logical and structured method and up to date.
    • Use Maintenance Management software on a daily basis to maintain records.
    • Work directly with contractors to complete jobs, safely and in accordance with 1) Contractor Progam and 2) Purchase order requirements.
    • Works safely at all times, follows safety rules and policies and participates in scheduled training.
    • Reports injuries and near misses promptly and in required detailed format; proposes corrective action.
    • Other duties as assigned.



    This job will provide oversight of contractors to ensure compliance with company processes and procedures.

    Education up to and including Electrical Engineering Degree(BS) from accredited institution or minimum 10 years’ electrical expertise demonstrated in consumer goods manufacturing with project management, NEC/IBC code and electrical design/maintenance experience.

    Must have a valid driver’s license.



    Ability to read and comprehend simple notices and instructions, including operating procedures and safety rules. Ability to print and speak simple sentences.



    Excellent math and analytical skills. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw/interpret bar graphs.




    • Proficiency with PLC programming, primarily Allen Bradley platforms.
    • Knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and practices used in occupational hazards and safety precautions.
    • Attention to detail, good organizational, communication and problem solving skills.
    • Must have the ability to work individually and in teams.
    • Ability to read blueprints and schematics to effectively diagnose and repair equipment.

    This role will be headquartered in Norway, while supporting the electrical engineering needs of North Liberty, Urbana, and Belle Plaine.
