SUMMARY

Purchases diversified commodities, materials, and/or services on a competitive basis to support business operations. Communicates respectfully and honestly to others.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Contacts suppliers and obtains quotations for purchase items.
  • Implements procurement strategies, tactics, and procedures for purchase items as developed by Purchasing Director or Commodity Managers.
  • Issue purchase orders.
  • Ensures purchasing documents are completed properly and terms and conditions of purchases are appropiate.
  • Processes samples from suppliers for quality assurance evaluation.
  • Resolves supplier invoice discrepencies.
  • Generates reports to determine progress on strategies and tactics and presents to management.
  • Establishes and maintains effective communication with suppliers and internal customers, including working with other departments to resolve inventory and production issues.
  • Maintains department and supplier fliers.
  • Strives to reduce waste, recycle products whenever possible, and re-use resources when practical.
  • Works safely at all times, follows safety rules and policies and participates in scheduled training.
  • Reports injuries and near misses promptly and in required detailed format; proposes corrective action.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) in business administration or related field from four-year college or university; and less than a year of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret such items as general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or simple governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, or procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions where a certain degree of tact and discretion is needed.

QUANTITATIVE SKILLS

  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.
  • Ability to comprehend basic production, financial or scientific principles.
  • Ability to use a computer to create spreadsheets and charts, run reports, and analyze and apply that information to make practical, day-to-day business decisions.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to work within team concept.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel programs; familiarity with other business software.
