SUMMARY

 

Work closely with the Cost Accountant to help manage the organization’s manufacturing cost system, maintain bill of materials, development of new product costs, and providing timely and accurate financial information 1) in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles(GAAP) and 2) for manufacturing and inventory planning, control and decision-making.  This positions main responsibility includes updating spreadsheet templates with month end GL data, as well as reconciling and providing analysis of the results.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Review the recording of manufacturing, labor, distribution and shipment transactions, work orders, bills of material, etc. for accuracy and reasonableness.
  • Prepare and analyze monthly variances from standard cost.
  • Prepare and issue manufacturing efficiency reports.
  • Ability to update spreadsheets at month end with utmost attention to detail.
  • Ability to audit spreadsheets against system results.
  • Familiarity with debits/credit and basic AP knowledge.
  • Understand concept of a chart of accounts, GL structure, cost centers.
  • Ability to reconcile balance sheet workpaper accounts.
  • Review and analyze inventory and margin reports, conduct research and perform analytical studies in regards to cost analyses and profitability.
  • Participate in the Engineering Change Notification (ECN) process.
  • Analyze cost accounting data and assist with cycle count/physical inventories.
  • Be an active participant in creating and supporting a strong internal controls environment.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

 

  • Cost Accounting experience in a manufacturing environment a plus
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Accounting or general business field or equivalent experience

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

 

Ability to read and comprehend detailed instructions, correspondence, reports and memos. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively with a variety of people and respond to basic questions in situations where common courtesy and tact are needed.

 

QUANTITATIVE SKILLS

 

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, and volume. Ability to use such concepts in practical situations. Ability to use a computer to create spreadsheets and charts and run reports.

 

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

 

  • Ability to research, compile, analyze and interpret data and reconcile complex account.
  • Beginning knowledge of GAAP accounting processes, preferred.
  • Experience using Microsoft software, exposure to Excel such as pivot tables, formulas and sorting/filtering features is preferred.
  • Be a self-starter with limited day-to-day direction.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to problem solve and apply judgment including understanding the sensitivity of confidential information.
  • Team player, willing to periodically perform additional functions and/or work longer hours during certain times during the year.
  • Ideally would have experience in calculating general accounting formulas.
  • Willingness to lead process improvement projects.
  • High degree of professionalism and tact
