    SUMMARY

    Sources and procures commodities, mitigates risk, assesses market volatility for purpose of manufacture and distribution. Assists in the design/plan/validation and implementation of new packaging technologies. Integrates all different roles within the company.

     

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

     

    • Create and interpret material specifications
    • Create impactful differentiation in materials/packaging that aligns with operational capabilities, sustainability goals, and food safety requirements.
    • Evaluates and prioritizes projects by investigating new technology, related costs, requirements, data, and performance improvement opportunities.
    • Prioritizes, develops and implements cost savings initiatives.
    • Sources multiple suppliers of commodities, packaging, and/or materials, maintains reliable contacts, and obtains quotations for purchase items.
    • Develops and implements procurement strategies, tactics, and procedures for purchased items.
    • Ensures purchasing documents are completed properly and terms and conditions of purchases are appropriate.
    • Expedites supplier deliveries to maintain desired inventory level and resolves supplier invoice discrepancies.
    • Processes samples from suppliers for quality assurance evaluation.
    • Generates reports on strategic and tactical implementations and presents to management.
    • Manages level of inventory investment for purchase items and works with other departments to resolve inventory and production issues.
    • Establishes and maintains an organized filing system.
    • Travels to meet with suppliers and potential suppliers.
    • Has a critical role in assuring food safety, quality and continuous improvement.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

    Engineering degree preferred. Bachelor's degree (B. A.) in business administration with applicable experience considered, supply chain management, or related field from four-year college or university; and minimum 5 years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Master’s degree is preferred.

     

    LANGUAGE SKILLS

    Ability to read, analyze, and interpret such items as highly detailed professional, scientific, and technical journals, and legal documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints from both inside and outside the company. Ability to write speeches, articles or memos using original or innovative techniques or style. Ability to make effective and persuasive presentations on controversial or complex topics to such groups as top management, boards of directors, or the general public.

     

    QUANTITATIVE SKILLS

    Ability to comprehend the most complex financial principles. Ability to use a computer to create highly customized spreadsheets and charts, run reports, and interpret data. Ability to analyze balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and the most detailed types of financial documents, and apply that information to make long-term, strategic decisions.

     

    OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

     

    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to prioritize multiple projects simultaneously.
    • Strong analytical skills and organizational skills.
    • Ability to work within team concept.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel programs; familiarity with other business software.
    • CAD skills preferred
    • Contract law proficiency
    • GFSI familiarity
    • Material manufacturing and converting knowledge
    • Understanding and experience with paperboard, corrugate, film, plastics and glass packaging materials
    • Strong negotiation skills
    • SPC
    • Familiarity with Materials Resource Planning (MRP) ordering process.
    • Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
    • 10% - 20% travel required

     

    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

    APICS certification, CPM, Six Sigma/LEAN, and HACCP preferred.
