    SUMMARY

    Oversees and manages quality processes and systems across the organization under the direction of the VP of Technical Services. Responsible for outside and internal quality related processes, documentation and control programs with integration between Quality, Operations and Outside functions.

     

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

     

    • Evaluates co-packers for quality standards adherence
    • Develops co-packing specifications, manufacturing standards through on-site development efforts
    • Ensures compliance with validation and other quality standards within and outside the organization.
    • Serves as the company expert on validation protocols within and outside company, including process validation across various systems including manufacturing, processing and pasteurization.
    • Develops plans of actions and initiates changes for improving process standards throughout the facility.
    • Performs employee, vendor, co-packers and continuing employee training.
    • Creates standard operating procedures and communicates new procedures effectively.
    • Conducts and assists in internal and third party audits.
    • Works on projects relating to the development of systems and process optimization such as reviewing standard operating procedures, processing, manufacturing and sanitation standards.
    • Answers process-related questions for packaging and processing and compliance.
    • Works independently while demonstrating excellent judgment, accuracy, and decision making with little oversight.
    • Assists other quality assurance personnel, including chemists, when needed.
    • Addresses questions and requests from purchasing, product development, and manufacturing operations.
    • Has a critical role in assuring food safety, quality and continuous improvement.
    • Other duties may be assigned.

     

     

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

    No direct supervisory role. Must be able to work in a matrixed organization and bear influence to accomplish responsibilities.

    Takes responsibility for safety within department and actively assesses hazards in their department and finds solutions to those hazards.

    Reinforces a safety culture: leads by example, reminds employees to work safely, praises good behavior and safe practices, encourages suggestions, communicates consequences for unsafe acts, holds employees accountable, disciplines employees when warranted.

     

    QUALIFICATIONS

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

    Bachelor's degree (B.S.) from four-year college or university in microbiology or chemistry; and 3 to 5 years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

     

     

    LANGUAGE SKILLS

    Ability to read and comprehend detailed instructions, correspondence, reports and memos. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively with a variety of people and respond to basic questions in situations where common courtesy and tact are needed.

     

     

    QUANTITATIVE SKILLS

    Ability to calculate figures and amounts using high level of skills in algebra, trigonometry as well as complex statistics.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to use a computer to create spreadsheets and charts, and run reports.

     

    OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability to prioritize multiple projects and work independently.
    • Good organizational skills, and attention to detail.
    • Ability to work within team concept.
    • Familiarity with Word, Excel and database software.
