Position exists to provide additional leadership and support to the manager assigned to the area and temporarily covers for that manager in his or her absence. Position also provides an opportunity to identify and develop employees for positions of advancement
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide leadership and assign tasks to area workers as directed.
Provides functional supervision 20-40% of the time by directing the work activity of other employees, but is not responsible for hiring, termination, evaluation, pay decisions, or corrective action.
Takes responsibility for safety within department and actively assesses hazards in their department and finds solutions to those hazards.
Reinforces a safety culture: leads by example, reminds employees to work safely, praises good behavior and safe practices, encourages suggestions, communicates consequences for unsafe acts, holds employees accountable, disciplines employees when warranted.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and 6 – 12 months of related experience. Prior supervisory experience preferred.
Ability to read and comprehend detailed instructions, short correspondence, or memos; including operating procedures or safety rules. Ability to effectively and accurately write correspondence. Ability to speak effectively in one-on-one and small group situations with a limited group of people.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to interpret bar graphs.
